Fortress and venue

Kufstein Fortress Arena

Kufstein Fortress is among the most impressive medieval buildings of Tyrol. The dilapidation of the historical fabric in the mid-1990s led to the foundation of Top City Kufstein in 1997: a GmbH (comparable to a LLC) in order to revitalise and merchandise Kufstein Fortress. The focus was not just to restore the fortress but also to improve catering and promote open-air concerts in the southern part of Josefsburg.

A retractable roof improves the overall acoustics of the arena. The tiered seating of the arena will make you enjoy an unforgettable experience to the fullest: gorgeous scenery, glamorous costumes, infectious melodies as well as impressive performances by outstanding artists in the middle of the enchanting backdrop of Josefsburg.

Arrival, parking and lift

How to find us

By car

You can reach Kufstein, located close to the Kaiser Mountains and the Bavarian border, easily from the highways:

Munich: 45 minutes

Salzburg: 50 minutes

Innsbruck: 45 minutes

Parking

Parken

There are not only numerous parking spaces in the city centre but also additional ones free of charge close to Sport- und Freizeitzentrum Kufstein (Car park Fischergries). From there it is only a few minutes to Kufstein Fortress.

By train

ZugYou can easily reach Kufstein anytime by train via the popular Westbahnstrecke (Western trail route).

Footpath from Kufstein train station to the main entrance (Festungsneuhof) of Kufstein Fortress (ca. 355m):
After leaving the main entrance of the train station, you will see Innbrücke (a bridge) right in front of you.

Cross the bridge and continue straight ahead until you reach Unterer Stadtplatz. Cross Unterer Stadtplatz (you will now go uphill) passing Kufstein’s tourist office (Ferienland Kufstein) until the town hall (a building to your right with frescoes and a yellow façade at the upper end of the ascent).

Now turn right and cross the cobbled driveway to St. Vitus parish church and go through the archway.

Please note that it might be hard to catch a train back, especially after evening performances.

Lift

ZuganfahrtsplanDieFledermaus

In general, the easiest way to get to the venue is to go by foot (Kaiserjägerweg (1), a paved road only three minutes away from Unterer Stadtplatz). We highly recommend you this 10-minute-walk that will thrill you by the impressive view over the venue.

However, there is also the possibility of accessing Kufstein Fortress by cable car (2) or the lift (3). Both facilities are not run by OperettenSommer and do not lead you directly to the venue. The way from the exits is not just steep but will also take much more time until you will reach the venue. Furthermore, you might possibly have a long wait because their capacity is limited.
